Tips To Help Stay Motivated
Limit all distractions
The dreaded distractions that keep us from motivation are even more prevalent when someone works from home and they need to be eliminated. Your constantly ringing and beeping phone, Facebook, Twitter and email alerts are just some of the distractions. To stay motivated, one of the best tips is to eliminate those distractions by putting your phone on silent or switching it off and switching off your email alerts. There is a way to monitor the amount of time you are spending on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Evaluate the time at the end of the day and you can see if it is having an impact on work. Another way to stay focused at work is to have a separate working area from the rest of the house. House calls, visitors, and children may be major distractions and if you have decided to work from home then you need to set priorities.
Targets and goals
One of the best ways to stay motivated at work is to set goals and targets for yourself. You need to know what you want to achieve both personally and professionally. Set realistic goals of the work that you want to get done and the dedicated time frame, be it daily, weekly, or monthly. Keep track of your goals and targets as this will keep you on track with what you have achieved and what you still need to.
Your work space
If you have decided to work from home, then you would have already thought about an office; if you are lucky enough you will have an office, or a dedicated work space. To stay motivated while working at home, one of the best tips is to have a dedicated work space in which you feel comfortable in and have all of the essentials you need.

All great tips. I actually do work from home. The piece I need to work on is getting my office space set up better. One thing that would be helpful is sound baffles or white noise to block out the noise of our dog barking at the postal carriers and other sounds that seems to carry throughout the house.
Great post! And very good advice…I work at home and I get distracted A LOT! The tv, internet, etc…
Great tips! I really do wish that I could have an office, as I know that it would help me focus on getting done what I need to get done… but I have to do my work in the living room with children underfoot because I’m a stay at home mom first.
There are days that I would love an office, though.
I work in the bedroom or in the living room in the comfy chair. I agree about wanting a separate office space.
I would LOVE to work from home but there are so many scams out there!! Does anyone know any legitimate places???
Start with what you would like to do. I started my own business because I found myself needing a service that was not in the marketplace.
I would love to work at home. There’s just so many work at home scams out there asking for money that it’s just scary. I’ll look into it more in the future. Thanks for the tips!
How about working for yourself or starting your own business. I did.
I work from home… distractions are tough to get away from. You really have to learn to stay focused! Thanks for posting these tips!
Great tips, not only for those whose workplace is their home, but for anyone who has to concentrate on a long and difficult task at home. I’d definitely point out the working space as one of the most important ones for me, cause if you work on your bed or the table where you eat, your mind will think of those actions instead of your work – so pick a nice corner just for you and your work 🙂
this is very true, it’s very hard to stay motivated at home.
Very useful tips, staying motivated can be hard sometimes!
It helps to keep a schedule to have something more concrete to aim for. But, at the same time, working from home gives you more flexibility to set your hours to fit the rest of your commitments to family, organizations and friends. Blocking out time to manage your calendar and setting up your day in advance by using templates or Dayrunners.
This is great advise for stay at home moms. we have ourselves to answer to so to get the everyday tasks done requires planning and keeping the distractions at bay.
