Is Google+ Really Going Away?

Do you have a Google+ profile? If so, you might have heard is Google+ really going away? The rumors are true.

This social media platform, which has been jostling for its place among giants like Facebook and Twitter, was hatched as a way to gather Google products under one umbrella.

An innovative idea…but one that time has proven just isn’t yet practical. Different social platforms serve different purposes.

In an exclusive interview with Forbes on February 26th, Senior VP Sundar Pichai hinted at preliminary plans. “I think increasingly you’ll see us focus on communications [Hangouts], photos and the Google+ stream as three important areas, rather than being thought of as one area.”

Right on the heels of the Forbes chat came this enthusiastic post from Bradley Horowitz: “I’m excited to be running Google’s Photos and Streams products!”

All of this means that Google Hangouts (an e-communication enterprise) will survive for now as  a standalone product.

Is Google+ Really Going Away?

We will put more energy into Google+

Pichai promised Google will “put more energy into it.” Photos and Streams will be organized separately.

Interestingly, none of the three components references the “Plus” name. This has led to the assumption that it’s definitely going to disappear at some point.

Creating a focused Google Photos component is a wise move. In my estimation, as photo-sharing was always a shining feature of Google+.

Excelling at ease of upload, advanced editing tools that blow other social networks away. And over a billion users uploading per week are nothing to sniff at.

The discussion platform component of Google+ will likely stay in place under the umbrella of Google Streams (the social component).

There’s nothing that you need to do as a business or blogger except wait and see what’s in store.

You won’t lose any followers or need to make any changes.

If you have a Google+ profile in place, carry on and keep on networking and sharing.
