I love Pinterest. It has grown my blog, Your Modern Family, tremendously! In the first month of pinning my article on How you can afford to become a stay at home Mom on one Income, and Potty Train in a Weekend, I had 4,000 new visitors! I am now getting over 4,000 views every day and over 125,000 views a month. That number has remained consistent. My posts are pinned an re-pinned. I get new Pinterest followers daily and they share my webpage with their followers. I am going to share my five best secrets with you on how to use Pinterest to grow your blog:
1) Go for an outstanding description! Use a great description with your pins! Which would you rather read: “Cookie Recipe” or “Amazing cookie recipe! This is the best! Its easy to make and… wow!!!” Which one are you going to click on?
2) Make sure that you have your picture the right size. If you have a tiny picture, it is not going to ‘show well’ on Pinterest. I like to use the size 450 X 450.
3) Pin it to several boards. I have a really popular board called I Like This Idea and it gets the most followers, but I also have a few people that follow my Money-Saving board or my Fun for the Kids board instead. What if I only pinned this to I Like This Idea? The Money-Saving board followers would not have seen it. Pin it to all categories that match your post and make more boards if you have to!
4) Pin it a few times a day. I like to pin my new articles once in the morning and once at night. I know some people only get on before they go to work and some only get on when the kids are asleep. Try to be sure that they both get to see it.
5) Re-pin your favorite posts after a month or so. I pin my best posts about once a month. If that post starts to die down on traffic, I just re-pin it and watch the traffic rise all over again!

Update: Since writing my ebook, Potty Train in a Weekend, my visits have increased again. I give thanks to Pinterest for the traffic, as well! It is a free way to promote your posts and e-books for free!
I hope that helped you! Feel free to contact us with any questions that you may have.
Great tips! Thank you. I just started to use Pinterest a lot more.
Thanks for sharing your tips, I use pinterest to grow and connect as well. Plus it’s fun at the same time!
Great tips! I love pinterest.
Us too! It has been one of our top referrers for a while now!
Super great tips! I’m pretty much addicted to Pinterest, so I always love hearing new ideas on how to promote my own posts better to build my blog. Thanks for sharing!
I’m visiting for the first time from SITS.
These are great tips! I love to bring back old favorites after a month or so.
I really enjoyed this post! I loved the tips and hope that I can start using Pinterest more effectively. Thank you for sharing your advice and there are certainly some things that you shared that I’m going to be using!
thanks for the tips babe. I don’t use pinterest as much as I should though.
Pinterest is definitely my biggest traffic source. These are great tips to keep in mind. Repin…..I’ve gotta do that more.
Pinterest sends an amazing amount of traffic to my site, too. I need to give some thought to capitalizing on that. Thanks for these tips, Becky!
I’ve always wondered if Pinterest would help my blog! I guess it can. Looks like I have some revamping to do!!!
Having pictures in right size is an important thing for getting traffic . 🙂
I’m not sure I understand the re-pinning? It’s okay to have multiples of the same pin? Do you take the first one down? Thanks Visiting from SITS Girls!
Same question here! Would be interested to know how that works! I feel once I pin, it’s done and over with..
I have the same questions as Kelly- I had NO idea you can “re-pin” posts? You can have multiples on your boards? How does that work? Oh dear… I am confused!! I am so anxious to use Pinterest the right way… help! 😉
Thank you for all these tips. I just started using Pinterest with my blog a few days ago, and it has been sort of intimidating for me. I had never thought about repinning posts on there.
I really need to step up my Pinterest game. Thank you for this post! I needed to read it.
Thanks for these tips. I’ve always thought that if you didn’t have a food or project blog that Pinterest wouldn’t help you that much. But you’ve proven otherwise.
These are really great tips! I never thought to repin something more than once, because I don’t know how to pin without having it appear in my FB feed and I’m scared of pinning too much if that makes sense. I will have to play around with Pinterest a bit more; I have a lot to learn clearly 🙂
I finally just decided to embrace Pinterest this weekend. I may have to slow my roll with all the crafting ideas I got BUT I’m definitely going to take advantage of Pinterest for promoting my blog.
Thank you so much for this post. Your timing is perfect!

I LOVE Pinterest! I wish this was around when I was working in an office setting. That last hour of work would have flown by! 😉
How wonderful for you to have your blog ‘boom’ from your ebook. That’s quite inspirational.
Truthfully I have been struggling with Pinterest. I just haven’t figured how to “love” it as much as it would require to work out. *sigh*
O my goodness your niche fits perfectly with Pinterest. Your plus size post for example just pin the images under a Plus Size Wedding board. Do not think of it as work just find things you like and pin.
Great advice, thanks so much! I have just decided to start making some changes to utilize Pinterest more
Great tips, thank you! Especially #5, I never would have thought to re-pin. Stopping by from SITS
Thanks for your great post, Becky! I have hesitated to pin things on more than one board (your #3 tip), but some people that I follow do that. I have always found it a bit annoying to see the same pin three times in my feed. But this only happens IF I follow all of that person’s boards (which is rare). Maybe I should try this tactic – hmmm.
Great ideas! Thanks for sharing them! I have recently started giving Pinterest a serious look and wasn’t pinning things more than once cause, well, they were already pinned – but you bring up a great point! Pins get pushed down in the feed and although we will scroll down a bit, at some point we aren’t scrolling down any further to see whats down there!
Thanks again for sharing your experiences and ideas!
I seem to have the same questions as most. I didn’t know you could repin. I guess I will have to look a little closer. I do like knowing what size pic is best and a better description and great board name too. I may have to change my board names. Thanks.
Great ideas:) I have an account on Pinterest but I’m really bad to use it, but now I really gonna try cause I want more readers and followers to my blog. Do u know how it works with Pinterest and blogger?
Shruti

I’m a “late bloomer” with even Pinterest, so this helps a lot. Didn’t even think to do #3-5. Thanks!
I love Pinterest too. Also, I’m using WordPress! I think WordPress is the best platform I’ve ever used! I will follow you, Becky!
