How to Blog without a Dedicated Office Space

I do all of my blogging on my laptop. I love the flexibility it gives me to move about from room to room in my house and get work done.

At the same time, I do not have one dedicated space to call my ‘office’. In other terms this means that I do not have one dedicated space where my ‘office stuff’ piles up. If you have a home office, you are most likely guilty of this.

Don’t get me wrong, I do have ‘office stuff’ but it is just tucked away here and there throughout the house instead of piled on one desk. This works for me, but you may prefer the piles. To each his own.

So, without a desk, where is it that I sit and space out in front of social media…I mean work? Really, it’s here, there and everywhere.

Here are a few of my favorites:

My kitchen table. Accompanied by a cup of coffee, of course. This is usually my morning work space. There is an outlet behind me in case I need to charge up while I work and I can easily tend to the kitchen needs of my children and husband as we go through the morning routine. I am up and down no less than 13,000 times during the few hours that my computer is open here, which means I get about 10 solid minutes of work done.

My backyard. I am fortunate enough to have a great backyard with some fun toys and activities. My girls can play for hours out here too. I have my computer set up on our table and can work outside, which is awesome. I am also up and down no less than 13,000 times out here, pushing on the swings, playing ball, jumping on the trampoline and the like. There are moments when they play together nicely in the sandbox or collecting leaves where I can get a whole 30 minutes to work and it is wonderful. Everyone is happy.

My couch. I find myself here during afternoon nap/rest time and also in the evening. It is comfortable and there is also an outlet nearby if need be. If children are sleeping then interruptions are minimal and I can sit long enough to leave an imprint in the cushions.

I really love not being tied down to a desktop with the same boring views and no flexibility.

What does your ‘office’ look like?
