From Me to We… Making the Holidays Bigger Than Just You.

From Me to We

My 2013 Christmas Vision… for those less fortunate

Did you know there are 67,000 children in Canada  in out of home care (foster, treatment centres, shelters). Of those 35.5% will be involved in the judicial system.

Think for a moment how many of those kids perhaps have never received a Christmas gift, or were told that there was not going to be a Christmas this year…

Imagine being a child and someone told you that – perhaps you have experienced it yourself or know someone who has.

These children are our future and they deserve to know that they are loved and cared for. These kids deserve to have the Best Christmas yet!

This year I will make a difference. Would you like to too?

I was so inspired after reading the book, “From Me to We” and particularly Oprah’s story. In there she talked about when she was living with her mom and her mom told her that there would be no Christmas. The stories that she had made up in her mind about what she would tell the kids at school about what she got for Christmas. Just when she accepted that there would be no Christmas 3 Nuns appeared who brought her and her step brother and sister a gift. What a sense of relief and she has never forgotten that day as the best Christmas ever.

So being in service is what she loves to do and it is what gives me great joy as well.

Seeing other people happy is what makes me happy. Even looking at my kids knowing that I am happy makes them happy.

The bottom line… Happiness.

I envision the largest Christmas Party that these children have ever seen and experienced.

At the moment, monetarily I do not have the funds to give, however I do have many great connections and support to do something like this. So I will use my talents and my personal gifts to create a magical party for the kids.

Like anything big I cannot do this alone. I am a visionary and can see the final party. I will need help, as teamwork truly is dream work!

Why am I doing this? Firstly for the kids! They deserve a Christmas to remember and inspiration for a brighter future.

Secondly, because there is nothing that would bring me greater joy than to see 1000 or more joyous kids beaming with delight!

Generally at this time of year so many people are getting busy and going down their Christmas lists of who do I need to buy for and what should I get so and so?

In North American culture we are consumers and many of us have more than we know what to do with. Now I am being very general, but you know what I’m saying, right? I invite you this year to do something different.

How you can help. Gather up all your new and gently used items to donate.

Get your kids to go through their toys and ask them what they would like to give away to another child who does not have as much as they do if nothing at all. Buy a new toy and wrap it up and drop it off with us (with the gender and age range for the child) or with an organization of your choice.

I speak daily to people all over the world in hopes of inspiring, sharing laughter, hope, entertainment and education and see it coming back to me in so many ways.

You may not be ready to change the world, but you CAN make a difference in one child’s Christmas.

As Ghandi says, “Be the Change You Wish to See in the World”.

Much sunlit happiness,

Jennifer R. Singer
