Featured Mom: Cat from FlipSize

We haven’t done a Featured Mom post in a while, so to refresh your memory, we take the chance to share a great mom who runs a business or blog. This month it is our very own, Catherine Clutchey from FlipSize Canada.

For those who do not know FlipSize is a company based out of Arizona (for USA customers) and Surrey, BC (for Canadian customers). FlipSize literally ‘flips’ kid’s clothes. They accept gently used children’s clothes and award points which you can trade for gift cards, or more clothes. They also have an online store to let you shop for your children, at a fraction of normal retail prices. We took some time to ask Cat some questions about running her own business.

When did you start FlipSize?

“FlipSize has been successfully running in the USA for several years. I had been following it but was devastated to find out they did not sell to Canadians. As a Canadian mom I thought that if I was looking for this kind of service, so are other moms. I bought rights to FlipSize Canada and opened my doors January 2013.”

What is the best part about owning FlipSize?

“That one is easy. I get first dibs on all the adorable clothes! My kids are very well dressed! It is very hard to stop myself sometimes, but children really only need so many things!”

What is the hardest part about running your own business?

“For me it has been challenging to do everything I want to do to promote this business, while still raising my children. I have to constantly remind myself of why I am running this business. I am running it so I can spend more time home with my kids. I am the mom of 5, including adoptive, biological and foster children, one with special needs. They come first. Period.”

If you could tell our readers one piece of advice about starting or running a businesss, what would it be?

“I have tons of advice, but if I had to choose just one I would say being a mompranuer is all about relationships. You need to step out of your comfort zone and talk to other moms, business owners and community members. You can’t expect to be able to do everything yourself.”

What do you want potential customers to know about FlipSize?

“Shopping used is not only cheap and easy, but it is also eco-friendly. Many items of clothing children rarely wear and can easily be passed on. We thoroughly inspect all items and guarantee the items ordered meet or exceeds expectations.”
