As a Work-At-Home-Mom (WAHM), I don’t exactly have a marketing/advertising budget. However, I don’t need to spend a lot of money to make people aware of my products. These are the main ways that my business advertises:
Word of Mouth – I don’t know about you, but when I am researching before a purchase (anything from a car to cloth diapers), I ask people their opinions. I rely more on what ‘normal’ people have to say about a company than what the company or business says about themselves. For a WAHM, word of mouth can help your business get off the ground! Some positive reviews and experiences, your customers mentioning you to their friends or in their Facebook groups, and poof! Your business can take off!
Social Media – Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook. All of these can be your friends, especially if you, like many other WAHMs, have a Facebook page. (Just one thing: Please, please double-check your spelling before posting a status on Facebook; you can’t edit after it’s been published, and typos take away from your professionalism.)
Business Cards – Okay, so these cost a little bit of money, especially if you get them printed so that they look professional (hint: Vistaprint has a lot of good sales and promos!), but they’re a great thing to have, especially if you are networking in person, making local sales, and have friends and family who want to plug your business to people they know.
Giveaways/Blogs – There are loads of giveaways going on all the time. And there are lots of blogs whose main function is to review products. Use these to your advantage! Yes, it will cost you a product or two, but if you have a great product and good workmanship, it will be well worth it in the long run!
